Church sound, video & lighting – creating an infrastructure for growth

15 Oct 2026
Building Resources Conference

Over the last 20 years, the world has moved from analogue to digital. What does that mean for church production? This practical session explores how to create a sound, video and lighting infrastructure that is adaptable, usable and creative, whilst positioning your church for future growth.

  • Short, medium and long term plans - not many churches have budget to do everything at once.
  • What is your long term goal (this could be 5 year to 20 year)
  • Identify the steps along the route.
  • Where could technology develop within that 10 year plan?
  • Cable when able - putting in cable is the biggest installation challenge and should be the back bone of every system. Cat 6/Cat 6a – the universal cable. Priority number 1
  • Digital equipment - built for compatibility. Look out for equipment that uses universal protocols (Dante, HDBT, Artnet, AVoIP).
  • Technology that is built for expandability (A&H console upgrades for example).
  • Positioning for growth – people. We’re not all AI yet.  Biggest area for growth, is an infrastructure for training.
  • What does it look like to invest in people, as well as equipment?
  • Bit by bit (or bite by bite) – learn, practice, use, repeat.
