Over more than three centuries a vision developed among prominent evangelical church leaders that prompted the Balfour Declaration in 1917, which resulted in Britain’s calling to be chief facilitator in the restoration of the Jewish people to their ancient homeland. Sadly, later British governments actually obstructed that restoration and eventually decided to withdraw from the role.
