The Recovery Course was written by Nigel Skelsey in 2007 while at Holy Trinity Brompton, where around 2,500 people completed the course, many finding lasting freedom from addiction. The first course welcomed eight people, but within six courses, attendance had grown to 120 each week, covering addictions including alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography, gaming, and eating disorders.
The course runs for 15 weeks and is based on the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, incorporating Christian principles, is free to attend and is designed for anyone seeking freedom from addiction. We welcome people of all backgrounds, beliefs, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Some attend to strengthen recovery, while others want to address specific challenges. The course offers practical tools, support, and understanding to help people find lasting recovery from addiction, compulsive behaviours, and secret habits.
The course is run mainly in churches, prisons, rehabs, and homeless drop-ins, and we provide free training and free resources to run the course, including teaching and testimony videos, a leader's manual and guest resources.
Anyone interested in running the course can join our free webinar, A Step-by-Step Introduction with Q&A, led by Nigel Skelsey and designed to help you explore running a church-based addiction recovery course.
