Why big strides begin with small steps
Drawing on his own experience of burnout and recovery, Patrick Regan OBE will be at CRE 26 to encourage visitors to adopt three simple but powerful principles that have shaped his life.
In Regan’s new book, Small Steps for Big Change, he calls us to start small, create space and think differently.
‘Much of the book’s message has grown out of conversations in churches — about faith, compassion, justice, resilience and the small daily choices that can genuinely change lives and communities,’ explained Regan, founder of two award-winning charities, XLP and Kintsugi Hope.
In Small Steps for Big Change, which has reached number three in the Sunday Times’ bestseller list, he invites readers to take a breath and begin again – not with grand gestures or quick fixes, but with small, practical and intentional steps that lead to lasting transformation.
Visitors to CRE 26 will be able to hear him on Day One of the Church Leaders Conference during the Mental Health panel discussion at 12:30pm with Andy Flannagan and Kathy Spooner.
‘It is almost impossible not to consider something in these pages that can change your life for good, for ever,’ said Dr Rob Parsons OBE, author of A Knock at the Door. Bear Grylls, author of The Greatest Story Ever Told, believes the book reveals ‘powerful truths’ while journalist Dan Walker describes Patrick as ‘a natural and intuitive communicator.’
‘I started the book considering how I could use it to support my clients. Half-way through, I was using it for myself,’ said Clarie Miles, a cognitive behavioural therapist.
A mental health first aider and campaigner on issues of social justice. Regan was awarded an OBE for his services to young people by the late Queen Elizabeth II. He is an honorary fellow of the South Bank University for his contribution to justice and well-being and was awarded CEO of the Year 2023 for mental health training.
